Recharge to WooCommerce Subscriptions

Move your subscribers without a missed renewal.

A subscription migration is not a product import. Every subscriber has a next billing date, a saved payment method and an expectation of being charged exactly once. Get one of those wrong and you get cancellations, chargebacks, or both.

We move subscribers from Recharge or Shopify Subscriptions to WooCommerce Subscriptions, usually as part of a wider Shopify to WooCommerce move.

Running subscriptions on Shopify?

The question that decides the plan: where are the saved cards?

Saved cards are held by the payment processor, not by Recharge or Shopify. What happens next depends on who holds them.

  • •If the processor supports a secure card data migration to your new processor (usually Stripe), subscribers keep billing without doing anything.
  • •If it does not, subscribers need to add their card again. The migration becomes a re-signup campaign, and we plan the emails, timing and incentives with you.

We confirm which case you are in before we quote, not after.

What moves, what gets rebuilt, what stays behind

Moves across

Comes across as it is

  • Subscribers and their addresses
  • Active, paused and cancelled status
  • Next billing date and frequency
  • Price, quantity and product per subscription
  • Order history
Gets rebuilt

Built again on the new platform

  • Subscription products and plans
  • Customer portal (skip, swap, pause, cancel)
  • Renewal and dunning emails
  • Discount rules for subscribers
Stays behind

Left on the old platform

  • Recharge or Shopify Subscriptions settings
  • Recharge-specific add-ons
  • Saved cards, unless the processor migrates them

How we run it

  1. 01Export every subscriptionand check it against billing reality: status, frequency, next date, price.
  2. 02Confirm the payment pathwith your current and new processor.
  3. 03Build subscription productsin WooCommerce, matched to your current plans.
  4. 04Import on stagingand run test renewals on sample subscriptions.
  5. 05Choose a quiet billing windowfor cutover, away from your busiest renewal day.
  6. 06Freeze renewals in the old system, import the final data, and switch on WooCommerce renewals. Never both at once.
  7. 07Watch every renewalfor the first full billing cycle.

Where this usually goes wrong

Double charges.

Both systems bill on the same day because the old one was never paused.

Missed renewals.

Next billing dates shifted by a time zone or a date format.

Price changes by accident.

Grandfathered prices or subscriber discounts not carried across.

Surprised customers.

A new portal or a new card request with no warning email.

What we won’t promise

That every subscriber stays. Even a perfect migration asks some customers to do something new. We keep that number as small as possible and plan the message with you.

Frequently asked questions

Will subscribers have to re-enter their card?+

Only if the payment processor cannot migrate card data. We find out first and plan around the answer.

Do subscribers keep their current price?+

Yes. Each subscription is imported with its own price, quantity and schedule.

Can we move subscriptions without moving the whole store?+

Rarely. Subscriptions usually move with the store. We scope them together.

What about Shopify Subscriptions instead of Recharge?+

The same process applies. The export and the payment question are what differ.

Planning a subscription move?

Send your store URL and roughly how many active subscribers you have. We will tell you what the move involves, and where the cards are, before you commit.
