WordPress care & maintenance

Your website, permanently looked after.

Most sites do not fail loudly. A plugin update breaks a form, a page slows down, an enquiry never arrives — and nobody notices for six weeks. We watch, fix and improve, so the site keeps earning while you get on with the business.

A broken site is rarely obvious.

In July 2024 a client’s enquiries halved in a fortnight. The site looked perfect. Traffic was unchanged. Three contact forms had been deleted from the trash by a routine cleanup, and every submission since had gone nowhere.

We found it the same day because we were watching the conversion numbers, not just the uptime. Then we added a standing routine: every form on the site, tested by hand, every two days. That is what maintenance means here.

What goes wrong quietly

  • A plugin update breaks the enquiry form
  • An uncompressed image doubles the page weight
  • Emails start landing in spam after a DNS change
  • A page falls out of the sitemap and off Google
  • A checkout step errors on one browser only
  • An abandoned plugin becomes a security hole

Four things we do, every month, without being asked.

Care is not a ticket queue. Half the value is the work you never hear about; the other half is having somewhere to send a request and knowing it lands with the person who built the thing.

01 Keep it safe and standing

Core, theme and plugin updates tested on a staging copy before they touch the live site. Daily off-site backups you can roll back in minutes. Malware scanning, firewall, SSL, and GDPR housekeeping.

Nothing goes live untested. Ever.
02 Keep it fast

Core Web Vitals watched monthly, images and scripts kept in check, caching and CDN tuned, database cleaned. When a score slips we go and find out why rather than waiting for you to notice.

Speed is a ranking factor and a conversion factor.
03 Keep it earning

Every form and checkout path tested by hand every two days. Conversion tracking configured properly, so you can see which pages produce enquiries and which only produce readers.

The part most maintenance plans leave out.
04 Keep improving it

A block of design and development hours each month for new pages, campaign landing pages, content publishing and the small changes that keep adding up. Unused hours are not the point — we suggest where to spend them.

A site that stands still slowly loses.

Priced on how much attention the site needs.

A five-page brochure site and a WooCommerce store with 400 products are not the same job, so we do not pretend they cost the same. After a look at your site we give you one number, monthly, with everything above included.

No lock-in beyond a month’s notice. No charge for the emergencies — if something we maintain breaks, fixing it is the job.

Taking over a site we did not build
Week one — the audit Security, speed, code quality, plugins, hosting, tracking. You get the findings in writing whether or not you continue with us.
Week two — the clean-up Backups in place, abandoned plugins removed, staging set up, monitoring switched on. Most sites need a tidy before they need improving.
Month one — the baseline Conversion tracking configured, so from here on every change can be judged against a number rather than an opinion.
Then — the routine Quiet upkeep, a short monthly note on what changed and what it did, and a standing suggestion for where the next improvement should go.

“Firstly, thank you for everything you do. You have been instrumental in our journey.”

Common questions

Will you take on a site somebody else built?+

Yes, and most of ours started that way. We audit first. If the build is beyond saving we will tell you honestly rather than charging a monthly fee to keep something fragile alive.

What happens if the site goes down at 9pm?+

Monitoring alerts reach us before they reach you, and outages get looked at as they happen, not the next morning. Restoring a site we maintain is included — there is no emergency rate.

Can we still edit our own site?+

Of course. Most clients publish their own posts and product updates and leave the structural work to us. We will set up the editing experience so it is hard to break anything by accident.

Do you do WooCommerce?+

Yes, and stores need more attention: payment gateways, tax and shipping rules, stock sync and a checkout that has to work on every device on every browser. Priced accordingly.

What if we want to leave?+

A month’s notice and you take everything with you: hosting, domains, accounts, documentation and the staging setup. Nothing is held hostage. So far nobody has asked.
